A beautifully themed restaurant with delicious food. Magellan’s is one of the best restaurants in TDS. When it comes to the quality and taste of food, there is no restaurant in TDS that can match Magellan’s. The food here is amazing. So, why is Magellan’s not my favorite restaurant in TDS? There are 2 reasons why Magellan’s is ranked lower than Ristorante Di Canaletto, in my opinion. Pricing and atmosphere. Magellan’s is expensive. It does have good theming, but it is tough to beat the outdoor seating and relaxed atmosphere of Ristorante Di Canaletto. With that being said, if you have money to burn, Magellan’s is highly recommended. Your palate will be in cloud nine. Your wallet will want to punch you in the face, but it’s all good. After you finish your food, I’m pretty sure the rest of your body will talk some sense into your wallet. Wallet will understand because the rest of your body just experienced the best food in TDS.
The prices for lunch is more affordable than dinner time. You are allowed to order a la carte during lunch, but it’s only course menu for dinner. There are 3 courses for dinner. New World, Pacific and Magellan. The only thing that’s different within the 3 courses, is the choice of entree. All 3 courses comes with all you can eat bread. The choices for appetizers, soups, salad and dessert are the same for all 3 courses. The all you can eat bread is delicious, by the way. I think I ate 6 buns altogether. For this particular visit, we went to the restaurant for dinner. We also requested to be sited in the Secret Wine Cellar room. It was a really nice Disney touch to have a secret room. Nothing that will blow your socks off, but it is still a nice little touch. If you guys ever want to be sited here, do inform the cast member that you want to sit in The Secret Wine Cellar room, when you put in your priority seating reservation.
We ordered 2 of the Pacific courses and one Magellan course. For our appetizer, we got the hors d’Oeuvre Sampler and 2 Sauteed Scallop with Balsamic Sauce. For salad/soup, we got the Meschun Salad with Cheese and Walnuts, Today’s Cream Soup which was tomato soup and Beef Consomme. We got Red Wine-Braised Beef Cheek, Sauteed and Fried-Wrapped Lobster with Fresh Tomato Sauce and Sauteed Beef Fillet with Red Wine Sauce. For dessert, all of us got the Today’s Dessert which was a pineapple cake with raspberry, vanilla ice cream and freshly made cream.
The food was stellar. There is something for everyone. If you don’t like fish, order the beef and I am sure that you will not be disappointed. If you want to chow down some seafood, they have something here for that. Every dish that I tried was delicious. The appetizers were super good. The scallop melts in your mouth and the sampler just fills your mouth with so many delicious flavors. For the soup/salad part of our meal, one dish stood out. The salad and beef consomme were both really good, but the tomato soup was brilliant. It snatches gold for that division. Onward to the entree. All 3 dishes we ordered for our entree were banging. I don’t use this word a lot, but it warrants a use here. BANGING!!! I highly rate all 3 of them. The beef was so tender and the sauce accompanies the beef perfectly. Both beef dishes were really really good. These two dishes are easily in my Top 3 beef dishes in TDR. Only Club 33’s beef tenderloin beats these 2. Just when I thought that this dining experience couldn’t get better, I took a bite into the lobster. SUPER BANGING!!! The lobster wrestles both cows to the ground and stands over them in victory. The dessert was the perfect icing on the cake. It wraps everything up with such charm and finesse. A beautiful dining experience.
A beautiful restaurant with nice theming and delicious food. A little pricey, but the food is well worth it. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to everyone though. There’s an air of class to this restaurant. I, for one, am not a classy guy. I prefer the atmosphere that I get from Ristorante Di Canaletto. I prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. With that being said, Magellan’s, probably has the best food in TDS. If the price was more affordable and it’s atmosphere, more open, this would be my favorite restaurant in the park.
I highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions, like anniversaries or birthdays. If you really want to impress a date, this could be the restaurant for you too. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to folks with small kids. Little Mahina got cranky and started crying for a bit. The looks from a lot of the other paying customers made us a little uncomfortable. This restaurant seems to be catered to a more adult crowd.
Bottomline: If you are looking to spend a little bit of money and you are with an adult crowd, hit this restaurant. If you are in any other situation, hit Ristorante Di Canaletto. If you can afford it, go for lunch in Magellan’s and dinner in Ristorante Di Canaletto. Perfect TDS dining scenario.
